Preaching at Immanuel

I will be preaching at Immanuel Baptist Church, in Pine Bluff, this Sunday. Please Keep me in your prayers.

Quite A Week!

While many were fleeing from Hurricane Ike, and others were going about there normal work week, we have been doing what we always do> proclaiming the Gospel.

I witnessed to countless numbers of people this week (over 300 homes, almost assuredly, though I didn’t keep an exact count). Catholics, atheists, and everyone in between, heard the saving gospel of Christ. Among the best encounters, was a young man who admitted he was lost, and was seeking the truth. I left Him with a Bible (he did not have one), a Gospel tract, and a card with church services and times. He seemed truly convicted, and I pray the Holy Spirit will come on him, and bring Him to salvation.

The culmination to the week, was a run in with the Mormons. I was walking up the street, after a day of door to door, when I saw the two young men walking out of a ladies house. I saw one of them pray (I think) over the ladies house, spit, and then get into His car.

Not wanting anyone to be led astray, I walked right up into the middle of the Ladies lawn, and dropped to my knees in prayer, while cars drove by on the busy street. I prayed that God would deliver this woman from deception, and that He would protect this home from false teaching.

Well, apparently the Mormons saw me as they were driving off in their car (yeah, no bikes). They got out and walked up to me, and a brief discussion ensued. I invited them to my house, on Saturday (today). They agreed to come.

True to form, the two clean cut missionaries were right on time. We spent a lot of time discussing and defining Biblical terms, so that everyone  understood where the other was coming from. I pointed out that their idea of “repentance” was flawed, and explained Biblical salvation, and the Gospel. They quoted to me from the “Book of Mormon”, at which point I explained to them, why I did not accept the authority of the “Book of Mormon”. I then pointed them to 1 Corinthians 13, and why I believe their “Prophet” lacked authority as well.

All together we talked about an hour and a half. At this point, the missionaries informed me they had another appointment, and stated that they need to go. I stood up, and stood between them and the door. At this point, I began explaining to them, the true Gospel, and explained to them that by their own admission of “works salvation”, they were unsaved, in accord with the book of Galatians. I told them in no uncertain terms, that they would be cast into “outer darkness” and spend an eternity in Hell. That NONE of their good works would aid in their salvation, and that unless they put their faith in Christ and His finished work alone, they WOULD NOT escape the judgment of God.

They began trying to explain that this was what they believed. I said they added works, and they did not deny it. They asked to sing a song> I stated that I could not participate in fellowship with them, but it was not because I did not like them. They asked if they could say a prayer, and after refusing, they asked if I would say a prayer. I did, praying that their eyes would be opened to the true Gospel of Christ.

I have to say, that one of them appeared to possibly be receptive. I could see contrition on his face, and tears welling in his eyes. I will be praying for them, and I hope you are, too: that God will release them from the grip of Satan, unto true life.

Beyond that, all goes well. The youth/ young adult group in the evening is growing, and I and my  family have been able to bond with several of them. Be praying for them, too.

Until next week,

In Christ,

Damon

Rainy Days….

Well, it has been raining. A lot. In a way, this is bad, because I cannot go door to door when it’s raining (well, I suppose I could. But I am not a mailman). BUT> some good has come from it.

We (Pastor Don and I) met with the guy in charge of BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministries) at University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. So now, on rainy days, I can cruise over there, maybe witness on campus a bit, and get acquainted with some of the students. I went for a little while today, and met a bunch of great people. I am trying to get some of them coming to our Wednesday night get together,  and from there, maybe Sunday school and Service. I think it would be great to get some of these guys involved in the church.

Meanwhile, our Wednesday night program is growing. Last Wednesday, we had maybe 10 people: this week we had 20. I got a lot of pictures of the kids/teens, heres a couple…

The First Week…

Well, the first week has not gone too bad. I spent the first two days witnessing door to door around the church, and then spent the next witnessing in a slightly more affluent area. I must say, contrary to popular opinion I’m sure, the worse looking area had by far the nicer people. The “richer” area produced only two positive responses, one a teenage man who listened attentively to the gospel, and the other, sister in Christ who gave me a cold bottle of water, and some homemade brownies. YUM!

The rest of the houses in that area, were “doors slammed in face” and “Get out of my Yard” encounters.

The “rougher” area, that directly around the church, has gone great! I have been welcomed into homes and had warm greetings: all but one home.

Unfortunately, none of those I have witnessed to showed up to church today. HOWEVER> there was one plus: The young man, Bo, who my friend Stephen and I befriended, attended service and Sunday school for the first time today! While this is great news, I am afraid it was tempered by some bad news as well:Bo’s house burned down! Now, fortunately it was a rental, from what I understand, but this still leaves Him on the street. I am doing what I can, and I was pleased to see some church members here slip him some money, but PLEASE keep him in your prayers!

Anyway, until next week!
